How To Measure For Roman Blinds
Measuring for your Roman Blind is made simple by following our measuring guide.
Firstly decide if you wish your blind to sit Inside or Outside of your window recess.
Please note, to obtain the most accurate measurements, we advise you to use a metal tape measure, since plastic and cloth tape measures are flexible and can stretch or bend which may result in inaccurate measurements and therefore not allowing your curtains to fit as well as they could.

Inside Recess Measurement
Measuring the Width
We ask you to take 3 different width measurements within your window recess - going right into the corners and taking account of any protruding tiles or window latches / handles. You should send us the SMALLEST of the 3 measurements.
Measuring the Drop
Again we ask you to take 3 measurements from the top of the recess to the sill and send us a note of the smallest / narrowest one.
Outside Recess Measurement (also called Exact)
It is a personal preference to choose whether to have blinds inside or outside the recess ( with the exception of windows that open inwards - in this instance blinds would be required to be fitted on the outside of the recess).
Measure the size of the recess then add the extra amounts listed below to ensure full coverage.
To minimize light leakage we recommend the blind overlaps the window by 5cm each side and 7cm at the top. The overlap at the bottom should take into account any obstacles such as a radiator.

What is the difference between standard, blackout, and thermal linings?
Standard Lining: Made of plain cotton or polycotton standard lining will let light into a room whilst giving weight to the curtains to make them sit nicely.
Thermal Lining: Thermal lining has a tighter weave or a coating compared to standard lining which can keep a room warmer in winter or cooler in summer when closed. It will block some light compared to standard lining but will not darken the room. These are a great option for public rooms than need help with temperature control.
Blackout Lining: Blackout lining will block all light coming through the fabric. As it has a tighter weave than thermal lining and blockout it will also do the same as these lining options. Blackout curtains are the perfect choice for bedrooms.
